As a funding entity reporting to the Department of Higher Education, the NSF’s core mission is to support national
skills development priorities.
The aim of this project is to address a critical gap: equipping unemployed post-school youth in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) with ICT and digital skills aligned to South Africa’s future economy.
The learners – aged 18–27 and from underprivileged backgrounds – lacked access to further education and employment opportunities. The goal? Provide an entry-level ICT qualification alongside real workplace experience.
NSF selected the NQF Level 4 Technical Support Learnership, which balanced classroom training with hand-son exposure in both school and corporate settings.

underrepresented youth in KZN.
From carefully selecting candidates to onboarding partners and mentors, the implementation was packed with lessons and wins.

Learners’ rapid adaptation and the ripple effect on existing teams – boosted morale, better collaboration, and a renewed sense of purpose.

While no single standout emerged, the collective resilience and optimism of these learners stood as a shining beacon of what’s possible when doors are opened.
The client partnered with LRMG’s EUC Learnership Programme, selecting it for its comprehensive curriculum and real-world integration capabilities.

Do it differently? Improve funding coordination and streamline onboarding, but keep the strong learner support and community partnerships.
